A CT or MRI referral on a patient under the age of 6 years will be
scheduled between the hours of 8:00am and 2:00pm. Once an appointment
date and time has been established the scheduler will then notify the
R.N. on duty. The nurse will then make contact with the child's parent
or guardian to give special instructions regarding the exam. The
special instructions are as follows:
Sleep deprivation (put child to bed the night before the exam 2 hours later than normal and awaken the child 2 hours earlier than normal).
The child will need to be at the center 1 hour prior to exam time (in order to properly sedate the child based on body weight).
The RN on duty will administer medication/sedation.
The child's oxygen saturation will be monitored during the exam and post exam until the child is alert and oriented before leaving the center.
The patients status will be monitored throughout the entire exam with any abnormal readings being reported immediately to the physician on duty.
